Hi Guys, i have a 2004/ 54 plate X5 with 21" snchizter wheels,when i brake over 50 mph i get a sever shaking on front end and through steering wheel. i am in the motor trade so know my way around brakes etc,so i put new discs and pads on front,but it still does it. i also have changed the front lower controll arms and bottom ball joints on both
The power steering lines have those same clips as the front part of the transmission cooler lines. They attach to the front left side of the radiator and continue on to its own steering cooler. Yes a power steering fluid cooler. Why on an X5 I don't know. I can see that useful for track cars but hey its BMW.
In fairness, the problem might not have existed when they had it. An auto trans specialist would be your best option, they'll code read it, and tell you what needs to be done. It won't be cheap, I'd budget from between 150-300 for a repair. A lot cheaper than a box, but still a bitter pill to swallow.
admranger. You don't fill through that, you fill through the big hole in the bottom of the pan if your transmission is like mine. There is a big plastic cylinder that goes up into the pan. You pump the fluid into the pan and when it flows out (at the specified temperature range), it's full.
