get a proper injector socket first, its much like a long reach socket with a window cut out of it. first take off the electrical connectors and the nuts off the top of the injector. next use a screwdriver to tap the seal round a bit then prize it upwards and take it off. put the socket on with a suitable ratchet or bar and jjust undo them.
Manufacturers have added injector coding into injectors to make it easier to adjust and comply with the ever-tightening emission regulations introduced since 2010. When fitting new injectors, you need to code them to signal the ECU to make appropriate calculations that will allow the engine to run the optimum performance compatible with the new injectors.
The mk4 tdci is a lot more reliable and stronger than the mk3 tdci, big improvement, it may not be perfect but I would swap without question, plus its a better car in many respects anyway. treat yourself to a 2.0 tdci 140 you wont look back, get one with a good history of course.

The fuel injectors of the 1.6 TDCI are very delicate/sensitive. Once removed these fuel injectors must be kept filled with either diesel fuel or calibration oil and preferably be stored in an airtight container. This prevents the internal components of the fuel injectors being affected by both oxigen and humidity inside the ambient air.
